June 6th 2006, cameraman Pete Johnson and myself, Dave Hammond, set sail from the village of Skeld, on the West coast of Shetland, bound for Kirkwall, Orkney, on the first leg of an adventure, which would see Zealander and her crew sail 1200 miles to Ireland and back.
We were joined in Kirkwall by sound recordist, Clive Brookes, and together, after filming a couple of interesting interviews in Orkney, we made the trip to Ireland to discover what climate change meant to the lives of "ordinary " people. The result is a chronicle, a vignette of a certain point in time, which forms the first part of a longer project which will see Zealander in Portugal, Spain, Africa and across the Atlantic.
To complete this part of the project we are involving a group of young musicians who will compose and perform a new piece, on the subject, presenting the finished work as Performance Art here in Shetland and further afield over the winter months.
